3 Ideas for My Final Media Project
Main Idea
-Documentary/Street/Action
My current favourite idea for my
FMP is to make contact with a group of street drifters to document the people
involved and what they get up to. I would aim to capture the events in a very
raw but stylized way. To organize shooting this project I am planning to take
advantage of contacts I have made over the last couple of years photographing
cars and meeting the owners. I have not yet produced a ‘documentary’ style
shoot, but I feel I would be able to combine my experience photographing racing
and drifting events to help capture the action and excitement of an underground
street-drift meet-up. I would love to capture the ‘streeto’ scene that occurs
weekly throughout the UK, but is only known by those entirely involved in the
car community. Faces and number plates would be hidden as protection of the
drivers, but being able to complete this shoot will still rely on the drivers
being happy to involve me and be trusting enough for me to photograph them and
take care of hiding their identity.
Alternate Idea 1
-Night Photography
Over the last year I have built a
strong interest in long exposure night photography, and also included the style
in my Location folder. If I was to take on this project idea I would hunt a
location that would avoid as much light pollution as possible, then wait for a
completely clear night to complete some extremely long exposures, capturing
stars moving through the sky and lighting the entire scene as if it was day-light.
Alternate Idea 2
-Night/City Photography
As a temporary third idea I feel
that I would enjoy capturing a lit up city at night, likely involving long
exposure and movement of light. I feel that with a lengthy shoot and a bit of
experimentation I would be able to capture some strong compositions that would appear
strong as an exhibition piece.
I know you love cars, but I think you should go for a mix between idea 1 and 2. This will show of your technical skills more. Look up Michael Kenna. He creates stunning night city photography. If you push yourself, I believe you would be able to do both a car shoot and city/night shoot and the best outcome of the two could then be presented at our exhibition.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria i'd like to see a combination of the cars and night photography. Car photography is natural to you so continue with that but for a challenge for the last project you could do the car photo's at night.
ReplyDeleteI think you could possibly do something really interesting by mixing up your ideas from idea 1 and 2. Because you are so passionate about cars, you should definitely include some aspect of them in your FMP.
ReplyDeleteyour main idea you have for your FMP is your strongest one but like the others said we know how much you love cars and mixing up the idea 1 and 2 would be really interesting and show off more of your creativity it would be a good challenge.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments above, you should use cars as this is your main passion within photography. The combination with both night photography (idea 2)and cars would be a great challenge but would work so well and creatively if you are able to suceed.
ReplyDeleteI think idea one could be really strong if you focus more on the people than the cars, as the people and the events surrounding them would provide a stronger narrative. This would also make it more effective in an exhibition space. If you could capture the essence of why you love these events, then you will produce some really dynamic images. I would also love to see creative some night photography shots though.
ReplyDeleteI'm in total agreement with Erica, this pathway would take you away from the typical car image in a magazine. look at Chris Steel Perkins 'The Teds', Derek Ridgers' book, 78-87: London Youth and Nick Knights 'Skinheads'
DeleteI also agree with everyone's comments you should use your main idea for your FMP as its the strongest but you could combine 1 and 2 ideas by mixing it up would be a good challenge for you.
